Creating Files in Quark Xpress

For creating a new artwork in QuarkXPress select File > New > Project (Ctrl+N). Enter the size of your card and set all margins to 0 mm.

Enter the size of your card, 91 x 61mm for business cards or 151.5 x 108mm for postcards. Set margins to 3mm for business cards and 1.5mm for postcards, this shows the bleed area of the card.

Create Guidelines

Your 3mm (1.5mm for postcards) margins show the bleed area which is to trim off. Text or artwork you wish to preserve must be at least a further 3mm (8.5pt) inside this.

If you view rulers, which can be switched on by selecting View > Show Rulers (Ctrl+R), you can just drag the guidelines out of the rulers to the required position. You can remove them in the same way by just dragging them back into the ruler.

Save as EPS

To save your artwork select File > Save Page as EPS (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S).

Select Format - Colour, Space - CMYK and Preview - TIFF.

You will now need to open the EPS file in a vector based software such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand, where you can convert all the text to outlines before resaving and uploading. Please see the separate instructions for these softwares for details on how to do this. EPS files cannot be uploaded containing font information.
